All About TEXTURE!

This week all students learned about texture.  Texture is one of the Elements of Art.  Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade were introduced to both "tactile textures"(you can feel them and see them) and "implied texture"(you can only see them).

Due to the rain this week, we brought the outside into the science lab and became scientists.  Art and science are a wonderful pair! We used magnifying glasses to look at objects from nature and study their textures.

We talked about how artists use texture to make their art more interesting.  Our studio project was centered around making texture rubbings.  Fun stuff!

Please enjoy our creative process with Ms. Hendricks' and Ms. Cuthrell's classes.

More Elements of Art

This week my 4th and 5th graders finished working on their first masterpieces of the school year.  As we begin delving deeper into our "Elements of Art" discussion in the upper grades, our projects become more sophisticated.

Our 4th graders created some line drawings that form a 3-D effect. Here are some from Potter's Class.

The 5th graders created abstract drawings incorporating lines, shapes, space and textures.  They are beginning to find the Principles of Art (Pattern, Balance, Unity, Contrast, Rhythm, Movement, and Emphasis)   in their work as well.  Can you find any in these from Davis's class?

Elements of Art

All grade levels are focusing on learning about the Elements of Art still.  The Elements and Principles of Art are important enough to spend the entire first nine weeks talking about them, finding them, and creating art with them.

This week Kindergarten through Second Grade got to See their old friend Mr. Paintbrush and create paintings about lines and shapes.  I think all of my young students enjoyed being reunited with Mr. Paintbrush.

OOPS! How did that last picture slide in there? I can't believe this has happened!  After thinking about this I must say that this is a big affirmation for the importance of the Arts!

See you at Open House this week where I will be shamelessly campaigning for volunteers and some help with art supplies for the classroom.

Art Class is in Session

Art class at KHES is in full swing!  We started the first week off with some "selfies".  Every student created a self portrait drawing.  As you might imagine, these drawings are as imaginative and individual as each little person that drew them.

This week we have begun to learn about the Elements of Art: Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Space, Value and Form.
K-2 students created some beautiful line designs with markers.  You can see some of these hanging on the front office bulletin board.
3-5 are creating Elements of Art books and posters they can use as we spend time learning about each one.

Next week:
K-2 will begin to learn about Mr. Paintbrush and create paintings of lines and shapes.
3-5 will continue to add to their Elements of Art books and posters and will begin creating drawings that incorporate the elements of art.
The art room is still in need of volunteers for hanging art! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!!!
