Youth Art Month!

March is Youth Art Month or YAM.  I have recorded a brief video I will be showing my students so they will understand what YAM is all about.  Please take a moment to watch.

Parents are invited to art class the week of March 3rd-7th.  This is our kick off week for YAM.  We will start back where it all began with the cave paintings of Lascaux, France.  Parents will be encouraged to participate just as if they are a student in my class.  Our art project that week will be in the form of Cave Art Murals that parents and students will work in groups to create.  If you can't come to art class, you will get to see the fruits of our Cave Art labors hanging on the walls outside the art room later.

I am so excited about our celebration of art education in schools.  We are very fortunate to have art in our schools in Dare County.  This is a great time to reflect upon that fact.

This and That

A random picture I took shortly before we dismissed from school early one day is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites on this blog!  I so agree...Art IS Epic!

Please forgive the inactivity of this blog for the last few weeks. Between the already planned days off in January and the unexpected days off provided by our snowy weather, it has been difficult to complete projects.

Here are a few exciting pieces of information:

March is Youth Art Month (YAM)

This is a nationally recognized celebration of art education in our schools and community.  Where would we be without art?  To kick off the month. March 3rd-7th will be Take your Parents to Art Class Week.  An invitation will be sent home soon.  If you plan to attend, be sure to fill out the RSVP and return it to your teacher.  More info about YAM will be posted here soon!
Next week I will post some pics of the student art created during Keith Haring Week.  For now here are some of my favorite pics from the last winter storm...
